The Onneley Centre is the Institute's first venture
into direct service provision and was developed by a Steering Group that
included a wide range of local stakeholders.
Led by the Institute
of Ageing and Health, it is well supported by Harborne Parish Lands Charity,
Birmingham Community Health NHS Trust and Birmingham City Council. The project is primarily funded by
grants from Birmingham City Council and Harborne Parish Lands.
The Centre is based on the ground
floor of Harborne Parish Lands’ offices and over the past few years has
developed into a well attended multi functional healthy living centre for older
people in the Harborne and South Birmingham area.
The Onneley Centre has an excellent team whom are
very much appreciated. The
day to day operational duties are carried out by a Centre Manager, a Centre
Assistant; a Catering Manager and Catering Assistant. The Centre is also fortunate to
have several volunteers that help with the kitchen duties.
Volunteers are always needed to add to our already
existing band of helpers, so if you know of anyone who would like to help out,
please let us know.
Although we are grateful for support from a wide
range of organisations, our focus now is on securing longer term funding to
ensure that the early success of the Centre can be developed into a permanent
much needed service for older people in Harborne and the surrounding areas.
If you would like to help us anytime or have any suggestions for future
activities please contact a member of staff on 0121 428 2022.
