The Institute is lucky to have recently recruited Professor Sir George Castledine
and Michelle Grainger as Managers for the Centre, who would like to introduce themselves…….
‘Hello from George and Michelle. We are very excited about taking over the management of Onneley House and would like to tell you about some of the
things we are planning to do. Our overall model on which our ideas are based is
one that combines Health and Social and Care. We believe that both health and social
care belong on the same continuum and we feel that nurses in particular should be more in tune with developing the relationship and linking the two together. Our
slogan therefore is, “The Centre at Onneley House where Health and Social care meet”
We are continuing with many of the excellent events and activities,
which have become a feature of the Onneley service, but in addition, we hope to
increase the variety of some of these and bring in new ideas. For example we are
setting up a drop in Nursing Clinic and have already had our first patients! To
enable this to flourish we need medical equipment and support from nurses who would
like to join us in this new innovative idea.
The small room, which is used for the clinic is also available for
counselling and a variety of services such as chiropody, massage and hairdressing.
Social activities will continue to increase especially if we can get the Sunday
lunch club started and more evening activities. We would like to encourage older
men to attend the Centre and are devoting Friday afternoons to this.
The centre has an excellent team who we very much appreciate and
Binwant and Amy are working on improvements in our café services. Volunteers are
also needed to add to our already existing band of helpers, so if you know of anyone
who would like to help out, let us know.
Well we hope this has given you a flavour of some of the things we
are doing and propose to do. If you would like to help us anytime or have any suggestions
for future activities please get in contact’. George and Michelle.
